Philanthropists’ Buderim home listed with $3.85m price guide

It was the ultimate pandemic purchase – a luxury house in Buderim bought online after a Facetime call from travel-restricted Bali.

Fortunately for philanthropist couple Lisa Kenny and Eric Metanomski, the decision to buy 20 Horseshoe Bend at the height of Covid proved a smart decision.

Now, after two years of living in the three storey house with sweeping views of the Sunshine Coast the pair have decided to downsize in the local area.

The luxe property has been listed for sale through Jarrad McCarthy at Harcourts Community Buderim with a price guide of $3.85m.

The house has a $3.85m price guide.

Ms Kenny and Mr Metanomski made headlines in 2015 when they left the corporate world and sold their multimillion-dollar home in the Blue Chip Adelaide suburb of Malvern to do humanitarian work in Bali. At the time Ms Kenny was head of fundraising for the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage and Mr Metanomski was chair of the John Fawcett Foundation for blindness prevention and cure.

After more than eight years in Bali they decided to return to Australia – but then Covid hit.

“It was very difficult to move around,” Mr Metanomski said. “We had about two years in Bali during Covid.”

During that time, the pair fell in love with the lifestyle appeal of Buderim and spotted 20 Horseshoe Bend online while surfing the net in Bali.

Attracted by the 180 degree views stretching from Mooloolaba to Maroochydore across to Mount Coolum and the hinterland as well as the property’s indoor-outdoor flow, they bought the house after a few Facetime inspections with the agent.

After moving in they installed timber floorboards, flowing curtains and solar heating – the latter bringing their quarterly power bills down from $1,500 to $200.

While they loved the views and the tranquillity of the home, they have since made a difficult decision to downsize before approaching their golden years.

“We love the house with a passion, but what really didn’t come through in the photos was just how big this house is,” Mr Metanomski said. “For two people – it’s a bit crazy.”

Selling agent Jarrad McCarthy said there had been interest from people both locally and interstate and that inspections had been held at different times of the day to showcase the changing views on display.

With 793sq m of under roof space, the property has multiple zones for living and entertaining over three levels plus five bedrooms with ensuites.

Each level opens to an outdoor entertainment area, including a private balcony off the main bedroom.

A modern kitchen with a butler’s pantry has a four metre luxury granite island and Miele appliances plus a built-in coffee machine.

The house also has an 80,000 litre resort style pool, an outdoor kitchen and an executive style office with built-in shelves.

Mr McCarthy said the poolside pavilion was one of his favourite features of the property.

“It gives you that Hollywood Hills vibe,” he said. “When you can enjoy something that is that beautiful with that sort of view from your outdoor entertainment area, it has this real lifestyle advantage that I think is hard to replicate or find elsewhere.”

He said Buderim was one of the most in demand residential precincts of Queensland that remained popular regardless of market conditions.

“It’s great for lifestyle and has some of Queensland’s best public and private schools,” he said. “It’s close to all the coastal attractions without you having to live right among the action.”
